Autumnal Reflection

Carly's challenge this week is to post our 'best shot' and for extra credit say a bit about our photography.

My first digital camera was a Canon Powershot A620.
I took it to Orkney last summer and those and later photographs formed the pictures for ‘Pictures Within Pictures’ my first AOL journal. At that time the photographic art was secondary to the accompanying songs that I wrote.
I purchased my present camera a Fuji FinePix S9600 last autumn. It is this camera that sparked a desire to improve my technique. I am struggling with a steep learning curve but find photography a hobby that is worth all the effort.
I enjoy landscape photography especially when water is involved in some way. I also try to find interest in simple objects.
I usually take my camera with me whenever I take my two dogs out for their daily walk and rarely come back without a few shots.
I have just started using Photoshop and experimenting with turning pictures into monochrome and sepia.
I chose a photograph taken early one autumn morning of the canal bank. It was misty and I like the way the picture fades from sharp clarity. The reflection in the water fascinated me and I was lucky that the camera captured it well.
I use the auto setting except when I took some pictures at night using a tripod.
I have got the opportunity to purchase my friend Rob’s Canon EOS 20D, as he has upgraded to a later model. He is allowing me to trial it first. If I like it I will have to also purchase another lens to give me the same range as the Fuji.
I have to admit that I feel intimidated by the SLR camera but intend to give it a shot…

To illustrate what I mean by looking for a photograph in simple objects I give this as an example.

  1. Very beautiful pictures! I have a Canon EOS 10D and I really like it, except that it's bulky. It does a good job on most shots, though.

  3. Wow, I would say you're doing most excellent and excelling at your photography - both shots are beautiful, but I truly love the canal bank with the mist. Breathtaking shot. :)

  4. Hi Liz :)

STUNNING! I just love autumn, so this particular photograph really speaks to me. I could just step right into the scene and find inspiration in every inch of the landscape in front of me! WELL DONE! I can tell I will learn a lot from you as we move along.

  5. I agree, STUNNING! You and an SLR would be quite a match.

  6. The reflections in the water add great dimension to both of those photos. You have a good eye!
